Our Story
Our founder, Yaw “Tokyo Yaw” Owusu, has been writing and recording music since he was a teenager. On his journey as a musician, he was fortunate enough to meet and collaborate with numerous talented artists to nurture his development. However, he observed a recurring challenge along the way: the scarcity of collaborative spaces and resources for creatives, particularly in underserved communities.
Our Mission
Our mission is to build community, and foster artist growth and development. We aim to do this by creating a space to enable artists young and old to pursue their passions and provide resources to help them leverage their talent to succeed in their journeys.
Our Vision
Baltimore City is abundant with creatives of all kinds. However, resources for artists, particularly those pursuing contemporary forms of music, is limited. We Are The Free Spirits aims to be a central hub in the city for creatives to connect, collaborate, and pursue their passions in safe incubator-like environments. Leading with a community-oriented mindset, we aim to uplift our community through art and service.
